Proverb: A bad penny always turns up. This originated from the clipping of coins in the Middle Ages, making the coins bad. Meaning of this proverb: A disreputable or prodigal person will always return. More generally, this proverb refers to the recurrence of any unwanted event. Our present expression of this would be "what goes around comes around".

Babydoll

A Babydoll is nightwear for women. It is short, usually six inches from the knee, loose fitting and sleeveless.

Basque

A Basque is an item of women's apparel. The term is from French origin. It refers to a type of bodice or jacket, and in modern usage a long corset, characterized by a close, contoured fit and extending past the waistline over the hipster. It's called a basque, because the fashion was adopted from Basque traditional dress, intially by the French and then throughout Western fashion.

Bikinis

A Bikini provides more coverage than a Thong but less than Brief.

Blanket Sleeper

A Blanket Sleeper is type of especially warm sleeping garment. A blanket sleeper is typically, but not always a loose-fitting, one piece garment of blanket-like material, enclosing the entire body except for the head and hands.

Bloomers

Bloomers is a word which has been applied to several types of divided women's garments for the lower body at various times. Women's baggy underpants fastened to just below or above the knee are also known as "bloomers" (or as "knickers" or directoire knickers"). They were most popular in the 1910s and 1920s but continued to be worn by older women for several decades thereafter. Often the term "bloomers" has been used interchangeably with the pantalettes worn by women and girls in the mid 19th century and the open leg knee length drawers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Bodice

A Bodice, historically, is an article of clothing for women, covering the body from the neck to the waist. In modern usage it typically refers to a specific type of upper garment common in Europe during the 16th to the 18th century. The term bodice, comes from a pair of bodies, because the garment was originally made in two pieces that fastened together, frequently by lacing.

Bodystocking

A Bodystocking is an article of lingerie, similar to a leotard. It is much the same as a unitard, but the term bodystocking is likely to be preferred when the type of garment is worn as an underlayer in cold weather. A bodystocking is usually a sheer close-fitting one piece garment for the torso; many variations have sleeves and legs. It is usually made from a sheer fabric similar to those used for stockings and tights, or from fishnet material. This is why bodystockings are not normally considered acceptable outerwear, and are meant to serve as novelty items of lingerie. Bodystockings also serve as an alternative to camisoles, and can be worn under a sheer blouse as a way of covering up the body without the lines of an underlayer showing through.

Boyshorts

Boyshorts are modern lingerie attire. Unlike regular panties, they offer full coverage.

Brassiere

A Brassiere, (commonly referred to as bra) is an undergarment that covers, supports, and elevates the breast. Since the late 19th century, the bra, has replaced the corset as the most widely accepted method for supporting breasts.

Brazilian Panty

A Brazilian Panty covers more of the back than a thong but less than a full panty. A Brazilian panty has a full crotch, but the back is cut back to follow the apex of your cheeks in a V-shape.

Brief

A Brief is a traditional rise panty with full coverage in the rear.

Bustier

A Bustier (alternatively bustiere) is a form-fitting garment for women, which is traditionally worn as lingerie. A bustier's primary purpose is to push up the bust by tightening against the upper midriff and forcing the breasts up, while gently shaping the waist. Nowadays, it might also be worn as a push-up bra under a low-backed dress, or as a camisole for outer wear. The bustier can also be worn as a half-slip under diaphanous upper garments if a bold display of the midriff is not desired. A bustier resembles a basque, but is shorter. It reaches down only to the ribs or waist. Modern bustiers are often made with mesh panels rather than the traditional boning.
